The National Children's Bureau endorses Restorative Approaches in residential childcare

In September 2008 the National Children’s Bureau (NCB) published a broadsheet on Restorative Approaches in Residential Child Care, written by Transforming Conflict’s director, Dr Belinda Hopkins. Highlight 242, a peer-reviewed article, has been distributed as a hard copy to all NCB members, professionals working across the Children and Family services and there is growing interest in the field across the UK. The article can also be viewed here as a pdf file.

The highlight document is a more formal version of the initial piece, written by Dr Hopkins in 2007, and also published on their website. This piece contains more anecdotal material, practical tips and some useful case studies.

Walsall trains Residential Care Staff in Restorative Approaches

In the first half of 2008, Transforming Conflict’s Residential Care Training Team began supporting Walsall’s care staff in restorative approaches. This work continues. Feedback from participants has been very positive:

‘Excellent course - one of the most beneficial that I have done in my career.’

‘I think the way the course was run was brilliant - felt like I learned a lot by having fun.’

Very relaxing and put across by the trainers in an ‘easy to understand’ way.’
