 Conference and Workshop Presentations

Dr Belinda Hopkins and the Transforming Conflict team are frequently invited to address conferences, In-service training events or give workshops. We often use Powerpoint slideshows as a launching pad for interactive activities, using World Café -type activities, pair and group work. Some of these slideshows are similar but they are also constantly evolving as our ideas develop. Feel free to share these slides with your staff but we would appreciate it if you could give credit to Transforming Conflict when you use them.

November 17th 2008 Luton Anti-Bullying Conference

Belinda was invited to round off the morning on Luton’s Anti-bullying Conference by explaining how restorative approaches were key to responding to bullying incidents

She began by referring to the new book by key anti-bullying and violence reduction campaigners Professor Helen Cowie and Dr Dawn Jennifer - New Perspectives on Bullying (Mcgraw Hill/OUP 2008) which advocates a restorative approach as a key part of a whole school response to bullying.

November 12th 2008 Wallace High School

Belinda facilitated a day’s In-Service Training for the staff of Wallace High School. This is similar to the slides from the previous day but since this school has been using restorative language for the past two years staff were keen to look at certain aspects in more depth.

November 11th 2008 Stirling

Belinda facilitated a day’s In-Service training for the combined staff teams of Stirling High Schools and Dunblane High School together with representatives from Bannockburn High School and Balfron High School, using the powerpoint slides as a prompt for lots of discussions between different people. The staff were willing to respond to invitations to move around and meet people from different schools, sharing practice and views throughout the day.

The afternoon was run in a more ‘World Café’ style to allow for consideration about how Stirling schools were going to take what they had heard forward..
